The 20 Things You Need To Stop Doing To Yourself

I do not own the following post.
I just find this inspiring and thus serve as a personal reminder, especially when a year is coming to an end.
Credit of this post is as below. :D

We are our own greatest enemy. We doubt ourselves, complicate our lives, cloud our minds with unimportant thoughts and negativity, we punish ourselves, hate ourselves and then feel sorry for ourselves because “outside forces” are making our lives a living hell.

Life is beautiful — you’re making yours a living hell all on your own. Each of us does things from time to time that make living happily more difficult than it needs to be.
Surely some of us have it difficult because those are the cards that we’re dealt, but most of us — especially those who are better off financially and don’t live on the streets — make our very own lives more difficult for ourselves. But there are things you can do to stop the miserable cycle that you have found yourself in — a cycle that I know all too well. Here’s 20 of them:

1. Stop Running From Your Problems and Procrastinating.
Problems don’t go away on their own. You can either make them go away or live with them. If you know you can’t live with them, then don’t procrastinate because the weight of them on your mind only increases over time. If you have a problem, then accept that you have a problem and face it — deal with it. Life is a long list of problems that must be overcome. The faster and better you overcome them, the better and happier your life will be.

2. Stop Lying To Yourself.
People will lie to you left and right throughout your life; don’t add to the pile of lies. It is one thing for others to be lying to you and an entirely different issue if you’re lying to yourself. You are the only person that you can trust…but if you have a habit of lying to yourself, then you can’t even trust yourself. You have to be able to rely on yourself and on what you believe.
If you know something to be false, then stop convincing yourself that it is or could possibly be true. Improbable is one thing, but impossible is another. Feeding yourself lies or half-truths will lead to the forming of a reality that doesn’t actually exist past the confines of your psyche.

3. Stop Living In The Past.
Yesterday was yesterday — it’s gone and will never again be. Everyone carries emotional baggage with them. Some of us carry the weight of a depressing past while others live in those happy long-gone moments that we consider to have been the best of our lives. You can reminisce if you’d like as long as you don’t forget that your reality exists only in the present.
It can be a dangerous thing to dwell on the past. Nostalgia can overcome us and make us feel that the world we are living in today falls short of the happiness we experienced in the past. Other times we will punish ourselves for mistakes that we have done and dwell in the negativity and bad feelings that we had. Whatever the case, be wary of focusing on past events and do your best to live in the moment.

4. Stop Attempting To Buy Happiness.
I’ve tried; it doesn’t work. You can buy drinks, buy drugs, buy sex, buy trips, buy experiences, buy toys and clothes…none of it will make you happy — at least not past the day that you buy them. I always revert to Paulo Coelho on this matter: happiness must be something attainable by each and every person no matter what his or her circumstance. If the poorest of the poor can be happy, then happiness cannot lie in the material.

5. Stop Relying On Others.
People have their own lives filled with their own headaches, own problems, own mishaps and own successes. Friendship is great, but often doesn’t weather the storm. Be self-reliant. Be independent. We all find ourselves alone at several points throughout our lives. If you find yourself on your lonesome and don’t know how to deal with it because you are used to having constant support, then you will drown.

6. Stop Fearing Failure.
Failure is such a derogatory term… I don’t understand why. Failing is learning in the real world. There is only so much that you can read up about the way the world works, but true knowledge comes from experience. And no one gets it right the first time around. You failed. Great. Try it again. And again. And again. The more times you get it wrong, the more ways you know NOT to do it.

7. Stop Doing The Same Thing Over And Over, Expecting Different Results.
At the same time, don’t keep making the same mistakes and expecting different results. If you tried something one way and it didn’t work, then guess what will happen when you try again exactly in the same manner? Failure is only good if you learn from it. Otherwise it really is just failure.

8. Stop Rejecting Prospective Partners Because Of Your Past Sh*tty Relationships.
You fell in love and had your heart broken; we all have. Luckily for you, now that you have experienced the pain of a broken heart, you have fully experienced the love cycle and can grow as an individual. Relationships, like the rest of life, are learning experiences. Don’t generalize and make yourself believe that all relationships end in heartache because that doesn’t have to be the case. Ultimately, you and your partner decide whether or not the relationship will work. Check your baggage at the door.

9. Stop Feeling Sorry For Yourself.
Life is tough for everyone. The richest of the rich have problems. The poorest of the poor have problems. We make problems for ourselves — they don’t exist outside of us. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and start interacting with the world around you.

10. Stop Trying To Change Others.
People don’t want to be changed and most often can’t be changed. You must learn to accept people for who they are. The less you focus on all the things you find wrong about an individual, the more you can focus on how to deal with them and all their discrepancies. Don’t fix people; learn to deal with them and — I hate to say it — learn to manipulate them into doing what you want them to do; mind-f*ck them.

11. Stop Making Excuses.
I understand that the time isn’t right, the place isn’t right, and the stars have yet to align perfectly. The setting will never be perfect for anything. Perfect is not the alignment of outside forces; it’s making havoc the perfect opportunity. Stop making excuses and start making opportunities for yourself.

12. Stop Worrying.
Sh*t happens. Then it happens again. Then sh*t won’t happen for a day or two…and then it returns with a vengeance. The more responsibilities that you have the more you have to potentially worry about. The key is to not procrastinate and approach all problems logically. You only have so much time in a week to work on the things that need to be worked on. You can do so much with that time. As long as you do as much as you can do, there is nothing you should be worrying about. The only thing worth worrying about is your own laziness; everything else is out of your control. If you worry about things out of your control, then you are setting yourself up for a mental breakdown.

13. Stop Focusing On The Negative.
Negativity is overwhelming and contagious. It tints the way we look at the world and makes us believe that we are worse off than we actually are. Negativity and worry go hand in hand and can be the downfall of all that you have worked so hard for. Living in a world filled with your negative thoughts doesn’t leave any room for the positive. Focus on the negative and you will hate your life.

14. Stop Being Ungrateful.
Statistically speaking, if you are reading this then most people in the world have it worse off than you do. That may not be very comforting…but consider that most of these people are likely to be happier than you. Happiness does not lie in the material, but in the immaterial. Be grateful for what you do have — especially those that play important parts in your life. You could be worse off and may very well be worse off some time in the future. Enjoy whatever prosperity you have.

15. Stop Wasting Time.
You are only allotted a sliver of time to call your life. Use those minutes and hours to make the most of your life. Ever hear your elders complain about how fast time flies by? Listen. They’re speaking the truth.

16. Stop Overloading Your Schedule.
Doing more does not necessarily mean getting more done. It’s all about efficiency. Human beings require certain things in order to live tranquilly. Divvy up your time for all the things that you MUST do and then divvy the rest for the things that you WANT to do. Just make sure to be clear on what you need before you start going after what you want.

17. Stop Trying To Impress Others.
It’s not worth it. The only reason you should ever try to get on someone’s good side is if you need them for something — only in business. When it comes to more personal relationships you can’t do anything more than be yourself. If they don’t love you for who you are, then they will never truly love you.

18. Stop Wishing You Were Someone Else.
Make sure that you know who you are and do all you can to develop — not change. People don’t change, they develop and grow. You are a great individual because you are a human being. You have the potential to do anything you want. Figure out what it is that you want out of life and go after it. There is no need to change who you are to match some preexistent notion of who you should be. Of course, certain situations you may find yourself in will have certain rules of etiquette, which you will need to learn and adopt. However, who you know you are and who others perceive you to be does not have to be the same person.

19. Stop Overlooking The Simple Things In Life.
The simplest of things are the most beautiful of things. Take walks. Talk to strangers. Look up at the sky, the trees, the birds. Connect with nature and all that which comes at little to no price. We often do our best to reach for things that we believe will make us more in tune with reality — happier — only to find out that we were greatly mistaken. Life offers us simple beauties. Relish in them.

20. Stop Hating Yourself.
We are often too tough on ourselves. We hate ourselves for our failures and our inabilities — which makes no sense whatsoever. Failing is learning and inabilities can be turned into abilities with enough work and patience. Whatever you dislike about yourself can be changed… just be sure that it’s worth changing. My advice: learn to love yourself the way that you are. Changes are easier to make when you already have a good relationship with yourself.

To reflect upon what were reflected to me

When you complain of people shouting at you frequently, do you think about whether you reciprocate and do it as often as they do?

And when people shout, is it because they are just furious, or is it because they are just trying their best to get their message through you, who doesn’t seem to appreciate and understand the meaning behind those words? Or worse off, who don’t even listen?

Whatever you do, or whatever people around you do to you, sometimes it all just comes back down to how you present yourself in front of these people.

And sometimes, you’ll realise you only have yourself to blame.

But as often as I always do when something bad happens, wallowing in self-pity alone, I believe, won’t solve the problem. Neither does running away from it will. And instead of just thinking how pathetic you are, why don’t you think of the underlying reason behind why things happen? They have a reason for happening, you know.

And sometimes, you’ll find that the main problem is YOU, so CHANGE FOR THE BETTER! :)

We can never always be champion, for there is only space for one.

An overdued post (stuck in draft for some reason), but it's a beautiful one so tada!

I'm so thankful for life, for that I'm loved, and able to love.

I fall from the sky some time last week. I was so happy I saw the first A in my days in University, and then the very next day, I received a C+ report.
But I thank god, because then he showed a someone who love and care for me. She brought lunch for me (cooked by her mum aka my god-ma!) to make my day a millions time better.

My mummy came to drive me to school and I managed to witness this beautiful sunset. (Aww, I'm so so loved! Thank you mummy <3)

On a side note, I have lied. (Okay, I finally gonna say the truth).
I actually do like sunset more than sunrise. (I know most of us love sunrise, or it makes no difference to more! But I decided to be different, to stick to my real love for once).
It could be due to that I could hardly wake up that early to catch the amazing sunrise. I know sunrise signifies a brand new beginning, another miracle and full or surprise day waiting for us.
Yet, sunset always mesmerises me a little more.
I dont think sunset means the end of the day; it means a good closure to me. And one signifies another new beginning, that I can look forward to. I like the feeling of anticipating!

I don't know if I'm making sense thus far, but I shall end of with a something to keep me going (that C+ report really hit me quite badly).
As the tile suggests, we can never always be champion, for there is only space for one. But go deep down, find and recognize the champion within our souls, and tell ourselves to be brave, to face the challenge of making sure we finish the race. :)

When I first listened to this song, it just remind me of this friend of mine.
The song literally depicts his life story.

I remembered making fun of him; not knowing he went through so much more.
I assumed that he's single because of those norm reasons. How shallow could I be!
When he told me the real reason behind it, I went silent.

For a moment, it struck me. For a moment, I realised how precious one's life is.
For a moment, I realised it does not only happen in drama.
For a moment, I seem to walk into his world, I saw the pains and struggles, the hell he fought through.

It reminded me, not to judge.

Many many things don't appear as what is seen on the surface.
Unless you went through the same experiences, unless you are living in the EXACT environment, we have no right to judge and criticise another.

Yet how many times did we manage to put all these down and be kind to another?

& my friend, I have not seen you for so long. I don't know how you are doing now.
But you are in my prayers.

Another day - yet I learnt to treasure my life more now

I started off my day by doing SW Project with my classmates.
I was late, damn.

For once, I was pretty not myself.
I was rather quiet. Perhaps it's the first time we actually spent time together.
Then it poured, made my day worst. I felt.

Someone shared with me her personal life stories today.
From being in a not-so-welled paid family, to meeting a two-timer boyfriend, then being backstabbed by her loved ones.
She is really strong, and I admire that she could still stand tall and earn a good place now, with a much better boy. On top of that, she still believes that the world is a good place, and tomorrow will always get better. :')

Then I realised, I'm so blessed.
I have yet to experience a really bad thing like hers, nothing came close to it.
I wonder if I could still be as positive if I were hit with such incidents.
For now, I want you to know you are really a beautiful one. We aren't born to make everyone likes and understands us. If they choose to hurt and not accept us, there's a limit to what we can do. Ultimately, we just have to do what is right to us, and be true to ourselves. :)

My younger brother (handsome right! - he's single by the way, *hinthint* HAHAHA) is enlisting soon, a day before valentines. No more roses from him :(
I know you will do well; remember to eat more!

& he gave me this :D
Strawberry cheese fruit pizza for supper :D

Let me post some over-dued pictures!
I met up with my girlfriend yesterday, Nickie :)
She taught me piano.
I know I'm really slow when it comes to picking up new things, but she was really patient with me! :')
I love you :)

We had a drink at bucks a few days back, actually to do some work but failed. Damn!

And hey, it's out! JJ Lin. His new album will be released on the 13th March, and preorder starts on the 20th Feb. 4 days after my birthday! *hinthint! HAHAHA.

Do support him! He chose to work with A Sa. :) He's mainly working with people he had worked with for the past 10 years! And of course, some new faces too! I'm so excited! :D:D:D

Happy girls are the prettiest - I say!

Never take someone's feeling for granted, because you never know how much courage they took to show it to you.

Fear of rejection; yet you know that's the best solution. The irony here.
So for now, I won't force myself to have a space in your life. If you really know my worth, you will make one for me.

They say if you do not go after what what you want, you'll never have it.
They say if you do not ask, the answer will always be no.
They say if you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.

Yet, I wish I didn't make it too obvious and thus hard on you.

I have always been proud of my heart.
It's been played, stabbed, cheater, burned and broken.

But somehow, it still works! :')

On a side note, I know it appears I am pretty obsessed with JJ Lin these days.
There are no other reason that I'm more than looking forward to his 10th Album - Stories Untold.
He worked extremely hard for this, so do support. It'll be good definitely!
因你 而在 Stories Untold will be releasing via major radios after 2/6 10AM Asia (US PST 2/5 6PM).

The arrival of doomsday 2012, still valid?

Have you ever wondered which hurts the most? Saying something and wishing you hadn't? Or saying nothing and wishing you had?
I guess the most important things are the hardest things to say.

Don't be afraid to tell someone you love them. If you do, they might break your heart ... If you don't, you might break theirs.
Have you ever decided not to become a couple because you were so afraid of losing what you already had with that person? Your heart decides whom it likes and whom it doesn't.
You can't tell your heart what to do. It does it on its own ... When you least suspect it, or even when you don't want it to.
Have you ever wanted to love someone with everything you had, but that other person was too afraid to let you? Too many of us stay walled up because we are too afraid to care too much ... for fear that the other person does not care as much, or even at all.
Have you ever denied your feelings for someone because your fear of rejection was too hard to handle? We tell lies when we are afraid ... afraid of what wedon't know, afraid of what others will think, afraid of what will be found out about us.

But every time we tell a lie, the thing we fear grows stronger.
Life is all about risks and it requires you to jump.
Don't be a person who has to look back and wonder what they would have done, or could have had.

What would you do if every time you fell in love you had to say good-bye?
What would you do if every time you wanted someone they would never be there? What would you do if your best friend died tomorrow and you never got to tell them how you felt? What would you do if you loved someone more than ever and you couldn't have them? What would you do if you never got the chance to say I am friends with all of my family and they know I love them?

Just random thoughts.
I wonder how many of us still believe that the doomsday in 2012 will arrive.

I remember clearly I did alot of research and there were many documentary and all that support the arrival of this day. I was really paranoid. I mean, many of us were when we watch this movie back then, right?

Oh well, even without this doomsday, whatever might still happen too.
So, don't live with regrets.
Choose a path you really want to be, not of others expectations, not of a life that ruin you or going against your principles and values.

RSSB Concert 2012

RSSB Alumni was founded this year in June.

I was appointed as the Vice-President earlier in January after initiating the formation of Alumni Band.
However, things turn out back. Stuff happened at home and I could no longer carry out my duty well.
Sook Hui, my president has to shoulder all responsibilities herself. Damn.

This year Alumni who participated in the Concert.
Favourite Junior of all time - Leonardo!
He's one passionate and responsible one.
And of course, our dearest passionate conductor Mr. Francis Tan.
Jia Min & I.
Nickie & Sook Hui
Well, although not all the pieces are well-performed, it is really heart-warming to see so many of them working hard for this concert.
Worked so hard, just for that few minutes of performance.

I remembered Evonne was like asking Sook Hui can she still join the Alumni Band and she'd definitely turn up for the practices. See, how much memories they all have. All coming back just to revive those priceless moments.

I love all the little conversations we had after concert at Sook Hui's house.

As I was having a really long chat with Jia Min earlier that day, we thought we were really sick.
We missed scoldings, as bad as Mr. Alvin's. LOL.
We don't mind reviving those moments and going through all the hard times again. Probably because we know we will certainly survive.
And as always, we are proud we did conquer all!
Cheers :D

Only through love and friendship, can we create the illusion for the moment we are not alone

Dear friend, you asked me if i ever felt this moment when I don't feel like saying anything at all.

Yes, I did. I have ever get these times too. When I don't want to talk to anybody, don’t want to smile and don’t want to pretend to be happy. But at the same time I don’t know exactly what’s wrong either. There isn’t a way to explain it to someone who doesn’t already understand. If I could want anything in the world, then it would be to be alone. People have stopped being comforting and being alone never was. At least when I am alone no one will constantly ask me what is wrong and there isn’t anyone who won’t take ‘I don’t know’ for an answer. I felt the way you are right now, hoping the feeling will pass soon and that you will be able to be yourself again. Albeit until then, all you can do is wait.

It's okay to feel down at times. We all know there are full of ups and downs in life.
Maybe we do know the reason or reasons deep down, but we chose to run away from them.
Maybe we just don't want to inflict more pain on ourselves, maybe we just aren't brave enough to face whatever that is haunting us.
But to your second question, no. HELL NO.
I dont think you should feel that way at all. I guess you just want to be alone.
Nobody is pretending to care when they aren't deep down. They do my dear, they care genuinely for you. They are concerned about your well-being, they are concerned about your happiness!

I know that feeling will go away soon.
Maybe you are facing tremendous pressure right now and you just want to run away from it.
I'm just guessing. I mean, only you know the reason deep down.
And dear friend, you are an awesome person. I salute you for holding on to so many responsibilities even when you aren't oblige to.
Just remember, we only live this life once. Live it the way you want it to be, not the way others put their expectations on you.

You are in my prayer; I hope to see you throwing all these negativities away real soon.
Felt like giving you a hug now. :( *hugggggg
Please be okay.

Embrace life once again my dear!

Shoo Monday Blues!

I'm so proud of myself that I survived such a long day - Monday.
12 hour of school with group presentation to kick of my day! Tried way to hard to concentrate in World Religions Lecture, not that it's boring nor is the lesson dry, I'm just tired.
Actually I realised my belief is very much related to Hinduism, even closer than Buddhism.
Cycle of life, Karma, and most importantly, God is formless and take up any form - see the paradox here? I will share about my belief perhaps in the next post or something.
The worst was Psychology Mid-Term. We waited for more than 30 minutes before they allowed us into the exam venue. Delayed :(( I hope I will do good enough to pass this module!

Speaking about Monday Blues, I don't usually experience it often.
So I will share how I usually manage to kick away Monday Blues!

  1. I will wear my BEST clothes or my favourite colour! Clothes could affect the way I feel about myself very much.
  2. Give yourself little treats in the MORNING.I will make sure I have a good breakfast before I head for lesson. :))
  3. Listen to HAPPY songs – allow happy songs be the soundtrack to your Monday. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of happy songs, I prefer classical music or heartbreak songs (-.-) on every other day. But I just need happy songs on Monday so I can have a good week ahead!
  4. Dance - just move that body! Jog in place, stretch, do yoga; you’ll feel less lethargic! Laugh and smile. Having a good jog in the evening after a long day, sitting down on the stone bench strumming your guitar makes life feel so good! (Okay wait till I know how to play a guitar correctly oh myyyy)
  5. Most importantly, keep reminding yourself that TODAY is a good day! Stick positive messages around your wallet, notes or phone. CHOOSE to feel happy. If you don’t already know, being happy is a choice, so choose happiness!

It works for me - the above 5 rules!; & I hope it will for you too.
Let me know the results ya? :D

Dinner with lovely :)

Had a great dinner with lovely last Tuesday, it has been a month or so since we last met. University life is one of the main factors I suppose? Heavy commitment, less time for love ones.

Jerome Lim: very talented and handsome young man. I looked up to him a lot :)
Jon Foo: very cheerful and adorable – one of my sources of inspiration.
Christine: a brave young lady with a big heart.

Since both of us are studying in the same school, we met up first and had salted caramel ice-blended.
Didn’t want to move our butt after, hahaha – pleasant atmosphere!
We started talking about JC life, and of course band life.

She started blaming me, that I was the one who caused the downfall of SYF because I betrayed AJ Band.
Not in that way don’t worry!
Because I idolized someone from the only gold-with-honours band – and is a someone important in their committee.
And I was trying so hard to defend for myself, what a funny topic!

Maybe I will share why I idolize this someone;

He’s not my eye candy or whatsoever don’t get the wrong idea, but he’s still an amazing person. My main source of inspiration at that point of time. I was whining so much until he shared he’s experiences with me. And wow, I changed my perception towards him (not that I have anything against him), looked up to him then.

I have no idea since when then rumours spread that I had a crush on him. I have a bunch of cute friends, still doing so in JC life hahaha!

When we are in despair, we almost feel as though we are the worst in the world, that everyone else should sympathies us. But have you pause and think, what’s the point of doing so? What’s the point of presenting a weak self – to prove that you are incapable? Well, I think that if we were to have this blessing to have access to the Internet (otherwise you won’t be reading this now hmmm :/), it only means that we are having a not-too-bad life as compared to the third world people. Nothing can get as bad. If you are really suffering from something unbearable, just open up and ask for help.

Embrace life, live it to the fullest when you are still healthy and young!

A "social Work" day

"Perhaps the greatest Social Service that can be rendered to anybody by the country and the mankind is to bring up a family."

Had a social work day - went to different organisations and interacted with the social workers there. Much disappointment though, I didnt have the chance to play with the kids at all!
The first place I went to is at Children's Home, there's no more orphanages in Singapore by the way. Albeit there's orphans in these Homes definitely!

The kids there are beautiful, but mostly suffered from hearing impaired.
It's such a rare opportunity to do such visitings; really as cliche as it may be, we should really treasure our lives and stop whining because we are so so much more fortunate.
Love life, live it to the fullest!

And top of that, as you can see there's a mosque near to the church. Such an amazing sight, well I guess  we dont see this in many other parts of the world. Different religions, different cultures all living in harmony!

There's a mini LKY giving a twist; adorable isnt it!
An artist was collecting Singaporeans' signature and compelling it for Sir's birthday present.
I was lucky enough to get into the queue and write a message for my idol and most respectable MM Lee.

I just stumble across this website from Lawrence Wong and it strikes me.
It's worth a read;

I guess we Singaporeans just need reminders like this.
Our generation have not went through any major hardships, have not witness anything like a war. Though it will be too harsh to say that we need to go through all these before we learn to appreciate whatever people out there are dying to long for all these, I cant deny the fact that we are too pampered.
At least most of us are.

Hopefully, soon I hope, all the stereotypes and labels being put on us Singaporeans will go away. Let us prove that we are much more educated, much more appreciative and deserve all the good things.

So, tell me about yourself!

Have you ever consider the role of memory in shaping meaningful experiences in daily life?
Think of the most meaningful event of your life.
Clearly, that event is one of that you remember, among ALL the things you have experienced in your life. we all have certain particular memories that stand out as indicators of meaning.
In fact, hover, everyday life is filled with potentially remarkable moments -  a BEAUTIFUL sunrise, a DELICIOUS meal prepared just for you, an UNEXPECTED telephone call from an old friend.
Experiencing the richness of everyday life requires us to be attentive and engaged, Sometimes daily chores and problems lead us to feel that we are going through the motions. this sort of mindless living may be a way to survive, but it is unlikely to be a way to thrive.
Actively engaging in life - investing ourselves in the events of the day - is the way we can assured that our life stories are rich and nuanced.
That way, when someone asks, "So, tell me about yourself," we have a story to tell!

P.s.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY XIAO FENG :)
We had a mini 'surprise' party for him!
09/10 - Nice and friendly people + crazy Cydney who were dancing and singing her hearts out.
Enjoyed myself :)
